Dumfries and Galloway is one of 32 council areas of Scotland. It was created in 1975 by uniting the historic region of Galloway to the County of Dumfries (Dumfriesshire) for the purpose of council administration, hence "Dumfries and Galloway".
To the north, the council borders onto South Ayrshire, East Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire; in the east the Borders; and to the south the county of Cumbria in England. It lies to the north of the Solway Firth and to the east of the Irish Sea. The region is well-known for its many artists and writers.
The pub is well established in the community and is popular with locals for weekend entertainment and live televised sports. Traditional pub sports are are played within the local area and the pub hosts pool, darts & dominoes teams. They currently have a football team who use the pub regularly. The Lochside Tavern offers a good range of ales & lagers and the age range of customers is very mixed. The Stag Bar offers a wide range of beers & lagers and is frequented mainly by an older clientele who are very much beer & lager drinkers. The pub is particularly popular for live televised sports and has both darts and dominoes teams who use the pub regularly. Horseracing is also popular with the locals as there is a bookmakers next door to the pub.
